Oddly enough, the DS9/NEM admiral jacket was something of a latecomer to the family of standard uniforms; although the formal uniform wouldn't be seen for some time (except a variation briefly seen at the end of Deep Space Nine's early sixth season episode "You Are Cordially Invited"), we saw several admirals during the DS9/NEM era wearing the later TNG-style for a while before the "upgrade" was introduced:
